Numfar & the Dance of Joy

This morning I gingerly stepped on the scale to find that I had lost two pounds. While but a minor victory, this set the stage for a very good day of the sort that only comes on weekends when I am at liberty to do whatever I want and am in a good mood, because I've just lost two pounds. So, it was Sunday and the world was my oyster (as long as it was not to be fried, sauteed in butter or served with any kind of fattening sauce), because (in the words of Cartman) I do what I want. But what would I do?

After having a bowl of turkey noodle soup for breakfast (don't look at me like that, it was the special, irresistible one with the stock made with the peanutbutter...you would have done it too!), I determined that I was feeling my inner heathen and would not be going to church. This freed me up to stay home and make a collage while watching multiple Angel episodes. All in all, it was a good choice. The collage is not done (but is coming along), but is still satisfying. My DVD watching allowed me to behold the wonder that is Numfar of the Deathwok Clan do the Dance of Joy (and that of Honor) until he was called off to do the Dance of Shame. Truly, the few collected minutes of the episode with the Joss Whedon Numfar cameo, made the whole of Season 2 (which was good even without Numfar) worthwhile.

One of the really great things about my years (mid-90's - early 2000's)of non- (or at least severely limited) non-news television watching is that as I discover shows that are no longer running new on t.v., but have their collected episodes on dvd, I can indulge my nerdy obsessions without having to wait a full week to see what happens next. It also allows me to feel like I live in a time warp as I am presently reliving 2001 instead of watching the hot new shows that are on now. If I did, what would I watch in 2013?

I love your collage! But what I came here to tell you is that the Numfar dance reminds me of a certain zephyr dance, pictures of which will NEVER be on the internet because that might cause an escalation in the "I've known you for so long I have a really huge backlog of embarrasing pictures so don't try my patience" race.

Have you watched all of season 2 now? "Where was the singing of my praises and the extolling of my virtues??" -- questions I have to ask all of the time!

I'm glad you like the collage. It is still not done, but I've had a good time getting as far as I have on it.

I just finished season two last night and am waiting for season three to stop being in transit, so I can go pick it up. The Zephyr dance explains a lot about my affinity for Numfar. Plus, there's just something about the name (not to mention the idea of expressing emotions through dance...you know how I feel about the Dance...tee hee).

And good call on the "I've known you long enough to really embarass you". It is good that we have a truce on that front. There are things the world just isn't ready to see. Numfar, do the dance of peace!

Aaaarghhh! Call myself a Buffy geek and I never spotted that that was Joss. I'll have to watch it again tomorrow.

Though it's a heartbreaking moment, I love the way that at the end of the final episode of Season Two Angel and the crew bounce into the hotel having returned from Pylea saying "There's no place like..." and Willow is just sitting there. Alyson doesn't need to say a word. It's all there on her face and in her body language.

Chris: I didn't know it was him either until I decided to look up Numfar on the net to see if I could steal a picture to link to from here. Alas, all the Numfar pics I could find were grainy video stills that didn't really do the character justice. Besides, I really think he has to be seen in motion to be enjoyed, since he's really more of a sight gag than a real character.

It's not obvious, with Numfar being green and hairy, but there was a clear Jossiness about his demeanour that made me smack myself on the head as soon as you said it was a Whedon cameo. If it looks like a Joss and dances like a Joss... And the fact that he's on the cast credits at the end is a bit of give away.

Indeed, Joss served an apprenticeship for the part having attended Winchester College, which is not only in a suitably medieval, rather Pylean city but is also a feeder school for the Ministry of Silly Walks.

I guess the cast credits are a good give away. I hardly ever sit through them on DVD's. Unless someone moves me so much that I just have to know who s/he was, it's usually my time for bathroom breaks, beverage refills, etc. It is, however, good to know that there is an actual ministry for silly walks. That sort of thing should not just go unregulated! :-)
